![3-Day Bangkok Weekend for Couples](https://wonderkit.app/og-heroes/bangkok-thailand/3-day-weekend-for-couples.49d53548.jpg)

A ferry across the Chao Phraya at golden hour, charcoal smoke under Chinatown's neon, a glass of wine sixty-one floors up: Bangkok gives a couple long, warm evenings worth staying out for. Let the city set the rhythm, and point every night at food and a drink with a view. The city is a string of walkable pockets rather than one walkable whole, so each day stays inside one: the old town by the river, Chinatown's lanes, the bar-lined sois of Thonglor. Between them it is a short Skytrain ride, a river ferry or a quick taxi; plan around traffic, not distance. Good to know: it is hot and humid all year, with sharp afternoon downpours in the rainy season, so mornings do the walking and the sticky middle of the day goes to shade, a wine bar or air conditioning.

## Day 1 — Old town and a Wat Arun sunset

### Anchor: Wat Arun

*Wat Pho, the river crossing, and a Temple of Dawn sunset*

The most romantic one-two in the city: an arm-in-arm temple morning, a breezy river crossing, and a spire that glows at golden hour. Start at Wat Pho, Bangkok's oldest and largest temple complex, calm and shaded before the heat builds, with its 46-metre gold-leaf Reclining Buddha. From Tha Tien pier, the short cross-river ferry lands you at Wat Arun, the porcelain-studded Temple of Dawn on the west bank of the Chao Phraya.

### Backup: Wat Pho

If the heat or the crowds are not cooperating, skip the crossing and stay at Wat Pho. The courtyards, the Reclining Buddha and the shaded cloisters make a full, gentle morning on their own, no ferry required.

### Eat & rest

For sunset, Eagle Nest Bar on top of the Sala Rattanakosin looks straight across the river at Wat Arun. The small deck fills fast, so come early for a railing seat. It is drinks and snacks, so have dinner afterwards in the old-town lanes.

*Wat Pho to the pier is a flat five-minute walk; the ferry runs every 10–15 minutes. Cover shoulders and knees for the temples, and leave the afternoon loose.*

## Day 2 — Chinatown: lanes, food, and speakeasies

### Anchor: Yaowarat

No reservations, no plan, just one small plate after another. After 5pm the traffic thins on Yaowarat, carts roll out and charcoal smoke drifts through the neon, and Bangkok's Chinatown becomes the best street-food walk in the city. Graze down the strip on grilled seafood, peppery guay jub rolled noodles, and whatever the queue in front of you is buying.

### Backup: Soi Nana

*a quieter dinner off the main road*

If the Yaowarat crush is too much, slip one block into the side lanes around Soi Nana \(the Chinatown one, not the nightlife district of the same name\), where small noodle shops and hole-in-the-wall kitchens trade the crowds for a calm, sit-down meal.

### Eat & rest

Finish on Soi Nana's speakeasy lane. Teens of Thailand pours gin in a tiny candlelit room behind an unmarked door; its sibling Asia Today turns Thai botanicals into cocktails. Ask for a seat by the edge and watch the lane below.

*The MRT to Wat Mangkon drops you right in. Wear light clothes and comfortable shoes, carry small cash for the carts, and keep moving.*

## Day 3 — Wine, green space, and a skyline sunset

### Anchor: Vertigo and Moon Bar

*a Sathorn rooftop sunset, then a Thonglor wine night*

Go up for your last evening. On the 61st floor of the Banyan Tree in Sathorn, Vertigo and Moon Bar's long open-air terrace faces west, so you watch the skyline turn from gold to city lights with a drink in hand. Arrive before golden hour, dress smart-casual \(no shorts or flip-flops\), and know that a downpour can close the open rooftop. Then taxi to Thonglor for dinner.

### Backup: Ombra Modern Tavern

*a wine bar without the heights*

Rained off, or not in the mood for the elevator? Go straight to Thonglor. Ombra, a warm Italian tavern in the Seenspace complex on Soi 13, pours natural wine with small plates made for sharing, and the neighbourhood around it is full of intimate wine bars with good by-the-glass lists.

### Eat & rest

Before the rooftop, walk the shaded lakeside paths of Lumphini Park as the light softens; it closes in the evening. After dinner at Ombra, wander Thonglor's side sois for a final glass somewhere small.

*Thonglor is a short taxi ride from Sathorn, and walkable once you are there: bars and restaurants cluster along the main road and its side sois.*

## Rainy day or heat-of-the-afternoon backup \(indoors\)

Rainy-season downpours are hard and fast and usually pass within the hour. Two cool places to wait one out:

- Jim Thompson House Museum \(near BTS National Stadium\): the leafy teak home of the American silk entrepreneur, seen on a short guided tour through rooms full of Asian art.
- SookSiam at ICONSIAM \(riverside\): an indoor "floating market" of street food and crafts from across Thailand's provinces, easy to graze and browse together.

## Where to eat

- Bangkok's best rooftops and dinner tables fill on weekends. Book the rooftop and the wine dinner you care about before you go; Yaowarat's carts are cash-only and need no booking.
- Over the first coffee, decide together which sunset matters most, the temple across the river or the skyline from the 61st floor, and lock that one in. Leave the rest loose.
