Eight of you in a row under the Green Monster, a box of cannoli from two rival bakeries, a ferry out to a granite fort in the harbor: Boston gets better with a crowd. The historic core, the North End, the waterfront and the Seaport sit within about two miles of each other, so the group can drift between them on foot without anyone playing tour guide. Nights stay in one neighborhood for a reason: the T stops around half past twelve while bars pour until two. Budget a rideshare home. Good to know: late May into June and September into early October are the sweet spots. Winter makes this an indoor trip of food, breweries and shows, and a Marathon or graduation weekend sends hotel prices soaring. Opening hours and ticket prices change, so confirm them for your dates.

## Day 1 — The Freedom Trail, the North End, and the oldest tavern in the state

### Anchor: Freedom Trail

No tickets, no reservations, no group vote: that is why the Freedom Trail goes first. A two-and-a-half-mile red line set into the pavement runs from Boston Common past sixteen historic sites to Charlestown, and following it is free. Friends peel off for coffee, skip a church and rejoin, and nobody gets lost. Allow most of a day. If your crew would read zero plaques alone, the Freedom Trail Foundation's costumed Walk Into History guides earn their fee; winter departures are fewer, so check thefreedomtrail.org. The trail ends at the Bunker Hill Monument, right where the evening begins.

### Backup: Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

*the Museum of Fine Arts instead*

Rain, or legs that won't do two and a half miles? The Museum of Fine Arts is big enough for everyone to split by interest and regroup at the café. It stays open until ten on Thursdays and Fridays and closes on Tuesdays. The Fenway entrance is shut for now, so go in on Huntington Avenue.

### Eat & rest

Eat in the North End. Regina Pizzeria's original on Thacher Street has been baking since 1926, takes no bookings, and the queue moves fast. Buy cannoli at Mike's Pastry and Modern Pastry, both on Hanover Street, and vote by the water. Nightcap at the Warren Tavern in Charlestown, pouring since 1780; book it for eight on a Friday.

*Start at Park Street. Haymarket serves the North End. From Charlestown, catch the Orange Line at Community College, walk back over the bridge, or take the MBTA ferry to Long Wharf if it is running.*

## Day 2 — Fenway Park, then the whole of Lansdowne Street

### Anchor: Fenway Park

*A game at Fenway — or a tour of it*

Build the whole trip around this if you can. Fenway opened in 1912, the oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball, and the Red Sox play more than eighty home games between early April and early October. Check the schedule, buy together, sit as one row. Out of season or with the team away, take the hour-long ballpark tour: it runs every day of the year, roughly nine to five from April through October and ten to five in winter, with the last tour three hours before first pitch on game days. The adult tour is thirty dollars.

### Backup: Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

*the Gardner Museum instead*

Ten minutes from Fenway sits a Venetian-style palace around a glass-roofed courtyard garden, and the scene of the most famous unsolved art heist in the world: the empty frames still hang where the paintings were cut out. The Gardner is free for everyone on Thursday evenings from five to nine and closed on Tuesdays. Anyone named Isabella always gets in free, so ask around the table.

### Eat & rest

Dinner at Row 34 in Kenmore Square: seafood that takes group reservations. Then Lansdowne Street: Bleacher Bar sits inside the wall under the centerfield bleachers, with a garage-door window onto the field, and the Cask 'n Flagon seats a crowd. Loretta's Last Call brings live country and line dancing; some nights are ticketed.

*Kenmore on the Green Line B, C or D drops you at the ballpark; the Gardner and the MFA are on the E at Museum of Fine Arts. The day fits inside about a mile.*

Day reference: 2

## Day 3 — Out into the harbour, then the Seaport taprooms

### Anchor: Boston Harbor Islands

The day trip you never leave the city for. A short Boston Harbor City Cruises ferry from Long Wharf North lands the group on a real island in the outer harbor. Georges Island holds Fort Warren, a granite Civil War-era fort to roam; Spectacle Island has beaches, hiking paths and the skyline staring back. Service is strictly seasonal \(in 2026, Georges Island boats resumed in mid-May\) and end dates move, so check bostonharborislands.org. Pack lunch; food is scarce. Rather see whales? The New England Aquarium's whale watch leaves Central Wharf and guarantees a sighting, or you ride again free.

### Backup: Trillium Brewing Company

*the Seaport taprooms instead*

When the boats stop, which is most of the winter, the Seaport runs the best group afternoon in town. Trillium's Fort Point taproom and restaurant has a patio, a roof deck, and private and semi-private space for bigger crews; Resy takes parties up to eight and walk-ins are welcome. Harpoon's beer hall is a few minutes away on Northern Avenue. The roof decks are a summer thing.

### Eat & rest

Row 34 has a Fort Point room a short walk from Trillium, so beer rolls straight into dinner without anyone hailing a car. Or head back to the North End for one last round of Mike's versus Modern. It settles nothing, which is the point.

*Long Wharf is Aquarium on the Blue Line. For the Seaport, ride the SL1 or SL2 from South Station, or walk twenty minutes across the channel from downtown.*

## Group logistics

Three things that keep a bigger crew moving:

- Bluebikes docks are dense across Boston, Cambridge and Somerville, a good daytime alternative to waiting for a train.
- Twelve or more? Fenway sells group tickets and books ballpark tours for groups, so skip buying singles.
- Walk in daytime, rideshare after midnight. The last trains leave around half past twelve, even at weekends.

## Seasons and weather — a New England winter is real

More of this weekend is seasonal than first-timers expect:

- December to February: highs in the thirties and forties, dark around half past four, and a harbor wind people underestimate. The ferries, whale watch, duck boats, Red Sox season and every roof deck and patio are off.
- Still going all winter: Fenway tours on shortened hours, the MFA, the Gardner, the breweries and the Lansdowne Street music venues. The Freedom Trail works on a clear cold day, with fewer guided departures.
- July and August run humid, often in the eighties and nineties. Spend the afternoons indoors or on the water.

## Two dates that will wreck your hotel budget

Room prices jump hard around two events:

- The Boston Marathon on Patriots’ Day, the third Monday in April \(19 April 2027\): a morning Red Sox home game, and hotels sold out months ahead at several times the usual price. The MFA and the Gardner both close that day.
- May graduations at Harvard, MIT, BU, BC and Northeastern stack into a few weeks. Both crunches spill into Cambridge, so crossing the river will not save you.

## Where to eat and drink as a group

- Seafood that will not seat six: Neptune Oyster, walk-ins only, around forty seats, with waits of ninety minutes to three hours. Send two people and meet up later.
- North-side taproom: Night Shift Brewing at Lovejoy Wharf, near TD Garden.
- Shows: House of Blues Boston \(about 2,400\) and MGM Music Hall at Fenway \(around 5,000\), both mostly standing and booked months ahead. Roadrunner at Boston Landing is its own night out.
- Pick your fixed point first, a Sox game or a harbor ferry, then book the tables that seat eight around it: Warren Tavern, Row 34, Trillium. Let the group vote on everything else as you walk.
