Fayetteville hands a wedding crowd more free hours than anyone budgets for: a shaded square to land on, a Saturday market that wraps up before the ceremony, a hilltop view before the flight home. That suits the ten or twelve of you who flew into XNA, are staying near Dickson Street or the square, and have hours the ceremony does not fill. The ideas follow the windows a wedding leaves you — a Friday afternoon that appears once you check in, a Saturday morning with a hard stop, and Sunday's ninety usable minutes. Most are walkable and free, because you probably have no car and just paid for a flight, a hotel and a gift. The one big exception is Crystal Bridges, half an hour up I-49 in Bentonville.

## The free Friday afternoon — The hours between checking in and the rehearsal dinner

### Go here: Fayetteville Downtown Square

*The downtown square, on foot, with nothing booked*

Start where the town started. The downtown square is Fayetteville's historic centre — gardens, lawn, shade and a ring of independent shops and restaurants — and it is public, with nothing to book and no closing time. That suits a group landing in ones and twos: people join as they arrive, and anyone flattened by the flight can drift back to the hotel. Make Onyx Coffee Lab's Fay Square shop, right on the square, the meeting point. Onyx has several branches around Northwest Arkansas; this is the walkable one.

### Or here: Fayetteville Public Library

*or the public library, if it is raining or nobody has slept*

Five minutes from the square, the Fayetteville Public Library is an expanded, modern civic building with a café, study rooms, an art programme and plenty of soft seats. Free, indoors, with sockets and bathrooms, it beats a hotel lobby for anyone waiting on check-in. Hours vary by day and it closes on public holidays; faylib.org has the day you need.

### Eat & rest

With no food hall in town, don't try to seat twelve at one table on a Friday. Dickson Street packs enough restaurants and bars into two blocks to split into threes and fours and reconvene. Want one room for everyone? Phone days ahead.

*Book nothing for Friday afternoon. The square, the library and the east end of Dickson Street sit about ten minutes apart, and the plan survives three people landing two hours late.*

## Saturday morning, back in time — Out and back before the getting-ready timetable starts

### Go here: Fayetteville Farmers Market

*The farmers market on the square — the best Saturday morning here*

A morning that cannot make anyone late. The Fayetteville Farmers Market has set up on the downtown square since 1973, it is free to walk in, and it wraps up by the middle of the day. Drift, buy a coffee or a peach, or buy nothing and just catch up — the guest quietly counting after the flight and the gift spends zero and never feels it. A January wedding gets a much quieter square; fayettevillefarmersmarket.org has the days and season.

### Or here: Old Main, University of Arkansas

*or the campus: Old Main and Senior Walk*

Walk west along Dickson Street to the University of Arkansas and Old Main, restored, dating to 1875 and topped by two mismatched towers. Around it runs Senior Walk: more than five miles of sidewalk engraved with every graduating class since 1876, well over 175,000 names. Hunting for a relative's year gets a half-strangers group talking fast. Free, flat and outdoors; give it half an hour to an hour.

### Eat & rest

Breakfast for a crowd is a seating problem, not a taste problem. Onyx on the square handles a scattered group without a booking, and the market has its own food. The Farmer's Table Cafe is the famous brunch — read Sunday's waitlist rule before sending twelve people there today.

*Plan Saturday backwards from the ceremony. Hair and makeup start earlier than guests expect, so keep this slot walkable, unticketed and easy to abandon.*

## Sunday before the flight — Brunch, one last view, and getting everyone to XNA

### Go here: The Farmer's Table Cafe

*Sunday brunch, and the rule that will catch you out*

The brunch everyone wants, and the one most likely to go sideways. The Farmer's Table Cafe is a farm-to-table kitchen with awards for its vegetarian and vegan cooking, which settles one menu argument before it starts. Brunch takes no reservations and runs a walk-in waitlist, and your whole party must be present to be seated — so send one person ahead to put the name down. It is about a mile and a half south of the square. If the group won't surface together, pick counter service on the square instead.

### Or here: Mount Sequoyah Overlook

Spend the hour before the airport on a view. This renovated public deck looks back over downtown to the Ozark hills, with benches, native planting, a 1930s cross and a mural; it is free and open daily from early morning until late. The walk up from the square is a stiff twenty minutes, so ride with luggage. It sits in a residential neighbourhood: keep the noise down and leave the road clear.

### Eat & rest

On Saturday, arrange with the hotel to store bags past checkout. XNA is up near Bentonville, roughly half an hour north, and rideshare thins out early on a Sunday. Twelve people is four cars: order early and give everyone the leave-the-hotel time. Ground transport is at flyxna.com.

*Build Sunday backwards from the group's earliest flight. If people leave in waves, the rest can wait out the morning on the square, with coffee, shade and the library five minutes away.*

## Walkable from where you are staying — What you can reach on foot, and the one big thing you cannot

### Go here: Dickson Street

Give the group one night that is more than another bar. Dickson Street, about ten minutes west of the square, holds the bars, restaurants and both of the town's serious stages. TheatreSquared, a professional regional theatre just off Dickson, runs a full season, and its group savings start at ten people. Walton Arts Center brings Broadway tours, concerts and comedy; ring 479.443.5600 for group terms. The paved forty-mile Razorback Regional Greenway passes through too, for a walk or a bike.

### Or here: Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art

*Crystal Bridges — worth it, but it is in Bentonville and you need a car*

Worth the drive, and it is a drive: Bentonville, about thirty-five minutes up I-49 each way, with no realistic public transport. With a proper visit, allow four to five hours, which makes it a Friday-afternoon plan. The building bridges a ravine over spring-fed ponds, and permanent-collection admission and garage parking are both free. Grounds open sunrise to sunset; it closes one day a week, so check crystalbridges.org.

### Eat & rest

In Bentonville, eat on the museum campus: eleven, the restaurant, takes no lunch reservations, but several cafés and a coffee bar absorb a group. Back in Fayetteville, split into threes for dinner around Dickson Street and the square, then reconvene.

*The square, the library, Dickson Street and campus make one walk of about a mile and a half. Crystal Bridges, the botanical garden and XNA need a car.*

## If someone brought the kids — Somewhere to take a four-year-old between the ceremony and the flight

### Go here: Wilson Park

A child who sat still through a ceremony has earned a castle. Wilson Park, Fayetteville's oldest, spreads across nearly twenty-three acres just north of downtown, and its stone castle — by local artist Frank Williams, finished in 1981 — stands by a spring-fed pond with a rocky stream and bridges. There's a playground, restrooms and a seasonal pool too. Free, and about fifteen minutes' walk from the square; pool and event details are at fayetteville-ar.gov.

### Or here: Botanical Garden of the Ozarks

Twelve themed gardens on the east side of Lake Fayetteville make an easy, contained family hour. It is ticketed, with reduced rates for children and free entry for the very young, it's a drive from downtown, and it closes one day a week. Just don't promise butterflies: the Butterfly House is closed for the 2026 season during a renewal and pollinator-education project.

### Eat & rest

With kids, counter service wins: each parent orders what the child will actually eat, without waiting on one shared kitchen ticket. The square and Dickson Street have plenty, and the library café covers a wet day.

*Wilson Park is a short walk or five-minute ride from downtown, so nobody wrestles car seats. The botanical garden is the one family stop that needs a vehicle.*

## Book these first: the group rules that matter

A party of ten or twelve runs into these. The rest of the guide is walk-in.

- TheatreSquared — 10% off for ten or more, 15% plus a free leader ticket at twenty. Box office 479.777.7477 or tix@theatre2.org.
- The Farmer's Table Cafe — no brunch reservations; everyone present to be seated. Reservations cover Friday and Saturday dinner only, and parties of seven or more email rather than book online.
- Walton Arts Center — runs group sales; call 479.443.5600 for the minimum size and discount.
- Crystal Bridges — free drop-in tours on a schedule, paid small-group guided tours, and no lunch reservations at eleven. Larger dinners are arranged by email through the museum.
- Botanical Garden of the Ozarks — bringing a big group? Ring \(479\) 750-2620 first.

## No car, one vegetarian, one who is not drinking, one who is broke

Every wedding party has all four. Solve each with the plan, not an apology.

- No car: Razorback Transit serves the campus rather than the region, and VeoRide bikeshare covers downtown and campus. For Bentonville, twelve people is three cars twice, so one day rental beats six fares.
- Vegetarians: The Farmer's Table Cafe's award-winning vegetarian and vegan cooking means nobody orders around the menu.
- Non-drinkers: Dickson Street is a drinking street. Offer Onyx on the square or a theatre night rather than a soda in a bar.
- On a budget: the square, market, library, Old Main and Senior Walk, the Greenway, Wilson Park, the overlook and Crystal Bridges' general admission are all free. The whole weekend can cost a coffee.

## Before you go

- Hours, prices and seasons change — confirm on each venue’s site before you plan around a time.
- Drive times to Bentonville and XNA assume normal traffic. I-49 on a Sunday morning is not always normal, so leave margin.
- Before anyone flies in, agree as a group on the two or three things you will lock — a theatre night, the market, maybe Bentonville — and leave the rest loose for whoever turns up.
