Old Town Square Christmas Market
Begin at the market that fills Old Town Square every Advent season — rows of wooden stalls selling mulled wine, roasted sausages, and hand-blown ornaments, arranged around a towering Christmas tree with the spires of the Church of Our Lady before Týn rising behind it. It's one of the most photographed Christmas markets in Central Europe, and for good reason: the square itself, ringed by pastel Gothic and Baroque façades, would be striking even without the market.
On the hour, join the small crowd that gathers beneath the Prague Astronomical Clock on the Old Town Hall tower, one of the oldest astronomical clocks still operating anywhere in the world, first installed in the 15th century, whose figures perform a short mechanical show. Afterward, wander the lanes fanning out from the square — Karlova and the streets toward Charles Bridge are lined with small shops and lit windows, made for slow, aimless walking with a cup of something warm in hand.
