Place Kléber
Begin at Place Kléber, Strasbourg's largest square, where a towering fir — the Grand Sapin de Noël — is set up and decorated each Advent season, ringed by market stalls selling ornaments, mulled wine, and Alsatian crafts. It's the centerpiece of the city's Christmas identity and a natural starting point for the weekend.
From there, walk through the old town's smaller market clusters toward Strasbourg Cathedral, the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg, whose single soaring spire dominates the skyline and was, for centuries, the tallest building in the Christian world. If you want to catch the astronomical clock's famous procession of the apostles, time a stop inside for midday, when it runs; either way, come back to Place de la Cathédrale as the light fades and the market stalls around the square light up — the cathedral floodlit against the dark sky is one of the best free views in France.
